The University seeks talented students from China
Malaga University is among the first Spanish universities in attracting Chinese students
The young people of Malaga are becoming less and less inclined towards higher education as a means towards a professional career, many preferring to move straight from secondary school into a job that will provide immediate financial gratification. Conscious of this reality, and of the increasingly important part being played by Spanish educational institutions abroad, Malaga University is carrying out a promotional campaign in major education fairs all over the world.
One of the countries of special interest in this regard is China, and Malaga University aims to attract students from this vast country as a medium-term objective. “This has been Spain’s year in China,” says the vice-rector of Students in the University of Malaga, Juan Antonio Perles, “and we participated in an international education fair with representatives from everywhere in the world.”
This expert is aware that Spain is still behind countries like Britain and France in selling higher education to the Chinese, but points out that, at national level, Malaga University is a pioneer in attracting Chinese students. “There are few universities in this country that work towards the same aim as we have in such a systematic way,” he adds.
The same number of places, somewhat fewer than 40, will be offered to Chinese students over the coming years.
